Be S.M.A.R.T. About Your Goals

In 1979, a study was conducted on graduating MBA students from the Harvard School of business. One of the interesting findings was that only 3% of the graduating class created and maintained a written list of goals. A decade later, a follow-up survey was conduct on that same class which clearly illustrated the incredible impact that goal setting has on performance. It was found that the 3% of students who had made a habit of clearly defining their goals and writing them down out-performed the other 97% of students financially by a factor of 10. Combined!

If you’re already one of the few who understands the impact that goal setting has on performance, fantastic! But to really take advantage of the power that laser-like focus on these goals can have, you need to be S.M.A.R.T.

SPECIFIC – Goals should be well-defined. Your description of your goals should be so clear, that anybody else reading them would immediately understand your objective without any further explanation.

MEASURABLE – You must be able to quantify your objectives so that you can measure your performance against them. It is not enough to say, “I want to be wealthy,” or “I want to be slim,” or “I want to donate to charity.” You need to define precisely what your target is. For example, “I want to earn $100,000 per year,” or “I want to lose 25 lbs,” or “I want to donate $1,000 to charity.”

ATTAINABLE – Your goals should cause you to stretch your boundaries and push you to achieve more than you ever have, but you don’t want them to be so far outside of the box that you don’t even believe that you could accomplish them. You need to base your goals on what you believe your capable of achieving if you were performing at your absolute best.

RELEVANT – Your goals must be congruent with your core values and other roles and responsibilities. Be certain that your goals, and the daily actions they require, are in alignment with the other areas of your life. If they’re not, you need to make some adjustments.

TIME SENSITIVE – You must think and act with a sense of urgency. Deadlines create a sense of pressure that can help you increase your tempo and create momentum. Daily deadlines will help to keep you on track.

Are Your Following This Critical MLM Business Success Principle?

Calvin Coolidge said: “Press on. Nothing can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Eduction alone will not; the world is full of educated derelicts; Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”

If you were to study the lives of extremely successful men and women, one thing you are likely to notice is the impact that momentum had on their achievements. “The Big Mo” can make an exponential difference in the speed with which you are able to realize your dreams. On the other hand, inconsistency can steal those dreams away.

No matter the level of your innate talent or the amount of experience you have, and no matter how skilled your competition is, with consistent effort, and given enough time, you can be successful at virtually anything. A lack of consistency, however, won’t just slow your progress. It often eliminates progress entirely and requires that you start from the beginning over and over again.

Imagine that you need to draw water from a deep well using a hand pump. The water table is 25 feet under ground. In order to get the water up through the pipe, out of the spout, and into your bucket, you need to crank the hand-pump. You start out similar to how most people begin an exciting new endeavor and begin pumping away with vigor. You’re committed to your goal so you pumpand pumpand pump.

After just a few minutes, you start to grow tired. You know that each time you pump the hand, the water moves up the pipe just a bit, but your arm is starting to ache. You begin to slow down, but just a bit.

Another minute goes by and now your arm is really starting to hurt, but the water has still not reached the spout. You push through the discomfort for another 30 seconds before you decide you need a break. Not a long break. Just enough time to go inside, sit down for a couple of minutes, and check your Facebook account. Not a big deal, right?

Well, what happens to all of that water you’ve already pumped up into the pipe? It doesn’t wait for your return. As soon as you stopped pumping, it began a rapid decent right back down the pipe. Now you have to start right back from the beginning.

Had you gutted it out just a little bit longer, the water would made it to the surface and flowed right out of the spout and into your bucket. Maybe just a few drops at first. Then a trickle. And then a nice, steady flow of water. Here’s the real kicker: once the water was flowing, you wouldn’t have had to pump nearly as hard or as fast. You could have kept the water flowing with a nice, easy, relaxed pace. Instead, you have to do it all over again.

Our network marketing businesses work in must the same way. Initially we need to put in a great deal of effort, but over time, with consistent daily effort, we receive greater and greater results. Eventually, when we’ve reached momentum in, we can relax a bit and continue to enjoy our increasing rewards. This only happen when you work consistently, though. Don’t kill momentum by being inconsistent.

Yes, Twitter is Still a Great Tool for Building a Successful MLM Business

Recently, I read a post on Facebook, written by a gentleman who has realized a good deal of success in Network Marketing. He was complaining about the fact that Twitter does not work well as a tool for business building anymore. He had previously tried to use it for building his business but was frustrated with the outcome and came to see Twitter as nothing more than a bunch of people that were always talking past each other.

While I agree that if you jump into the main Twitter stream at any point in time, you’re likely to see a plethora of marketers shouting “Look at me! Look at me!”, without providing a whole lot of value or interaction, however, you can still use Twitter you build your MLM business successfully.

Network marketing is a relationship business. It always has been and always will be. Technology is incredible for helping to create leverage and facilitate the development of relationships, but it cannot replace one-on-one human interaction. There are very few network marketers that have been able to successfully build an organization by solely using technology and I’ve yet to meet even one that has been able to create any significant downline duplication. So, as with any tool, Twitter can be useful, but it doesn’t replace the human connection.

One of my favorite techniques is to use a tool called Tweet Adder. It has a number of great features, but one of the best is the ability it gives you to search for Twitter users within your target market and to follow them automatically.

One of the ways I do this is to search for users that are already following other leaders in the network marketing industry. It makes sense that if they are interested in what successful Network Marketers have to say that they will also find DaleHorton.TV to be a useful resource.

Generally, I search for users until I have a list of about 30,000. That sounds like a lot of work, but with Tweet Adder it only takes a couple of minutes to generate the list. Once I’ve compiled the list, I begin to follow those users automatically through Tweet Adder. Each day, I open Tweet Adder and click on a button to start following those users. I follow about between 900 and 1,000 each day.

If you’ve been using Twitter for any length of time, you know that a percentage of users will follow you back as a courtesy. I find that about 20 percent of the people that I follow, follow me back. When they do, they receive a message asking them to connect with me on Facebook, where I’m better able to develop a relationship with them. I receive about a dozen friend requests per day from people that I’ve met through Twitter. These are all folks that are responsive, that are part of my target market, and that tend to be good prospects for my business offerings. Additionally, by following me on Twitter, they begin to receive the content that I create on a daily basis to provide value to them and their own businesses.

This is just one way that I’m using Twitter. During the upcoming weeks, I’ll share some more of my strategies that you can use for building your own MLM business.

Be Sure to Put the First Things First

Most network marketers come into this industry at a time when they are balancing a full time job, family, and a host of other commitments.

One of the wonderful things about this industry is that it’s very easy to get our businesses started and we can begin earning an income almost right away. However, there is a tremendous amount to learn. In fact, in MLM, the learning never really stops. Compound this with the never ending stream of gurus promoting their latest and greatest business building strategies and it can be difficult to stay focused on the most important tasks.

I’ve published articles before about the Pareto Principle and it’s importance in our businesses. One aspect of this success principle is that 80% of our results usually come from just one or two key activities. We need to identify those activities and focus our time, energy, and resources there. Everything else, must be delegate, outsourced, or eliminated.

In regards to Network Marketing, the single-most valuable business building activity is prospecting. I define prospecting as (1) identifying candidates who are either open to a business opportunity or who have a need for the products and services that I sell, (2) sharing the vision of my business with those candidates, and (3) following-up with those candidates as they move through my Prospecting Funnel. This is where fully eighty-percent of your time should be spent. For example, if you’re working on your network marketing business for two hours per day, at least ninety minutes of that time should be focused solely on prospecting.

There is one other activity that should be given priority over even prospecting, however. That is your personal development. You should be investing some time every single day on the development of your mindset and your skill-set. This is an extremely important habit, but it’s also one of the first things to get pushed off to the side. The reason is that, even though it is an easy habit to maintain, it is also an easy habit to overlook. So, when network marketers get busy, this is often one of the first items to disappear from the schedule. The long-term impact of this oversight can be incredible.

Take a moment and imagine yourself hiking through the woods one day. You come across a man sawing away at a huge oak true. He’s obviously tired and he’s sweating and breathing heavy.

“Looks like you’ve been working hard at that for some time,” you say.

“Yuh,” the man affirms.

You ask, “How long you been trying to cut down that tree?”

“All day. Must be at least eight hours now, and I’m exhausted.” he replies.

“Maybe you should have a seat. Get some rest and sharpen that saw a bit,” you suggest. “I’m sure you’d find things much easier after that.”

“Are you kidding me?” he asks incredulously. “Can’t you see that I’m too busy cutting down this tree to be sitting down.”

Your daily time for study & personal develop is one of the ways in which you sharpen your saw. It’s during this time that you’re learning new strategies and techniques. It’s also during this time that you are forging the character of a leader.

Make sure that you give these to activities priority over everything else you do.

Become Rich in 2012: 3 Meditations That Absolutely Work

If you’re like me, you’re ready, eager, and excited about the new year – ready to take your business to a whole new level, and become rich as a result.

Eager to get past whatever has been holding you back.

And excited by the possibilities that a new year always brings.

But hang on just a second. Because to get there from here, you gotta release limiting beliefs about yourself, your deservability, and what’s possible to achieve.

The good news is, if you’re willing to commit to doing, being, and having more in your life – of anything you can imagine – you’re just steps away from making a start.

That’s because, if you’re going to become rich in 2012, you have to view success as an inside, out job. It’s the only way.

You’ve probably heard that a million times before, right? But think about this: If you aren’t achieving the kinds of results you want in your business not making the kind of money you know is possible not living the life of your dreams as a result, then the magnitude of that statement hasn’t yet sunk in.

Because the fact of the matter is, you are the one creating every experience you have, simply by the types of beliefs you hold (and the thoughts that fuel those beliefs).

That means that you – and only you – get to decide what kind of success you have, or don’t.

I get it. I’ve been in your position. I’ve been flat broke (like, no gifts at Christmas for the kids, broke yikes), and I know just how much it sucks to feel like a failure in spite of all of my hard work.

The problem wasn’t the systems I was putting into place. After all, if the top producers use the same system to become rich, then it obviously works.

In truth, the problem was with me -specifically, with my beliefs around money, success, what was possible, and what I deserved.

If you’re ready to take your network marketing business to a whole new level (and become rich as a result), it’s time to change those limiting beliefs. And guided meditation is the fastest way to get there from here.

Listen. There’s a ton of training out there that will show you how to build a business.

But it won’t do squat for you if something inside is holding you back. And you’re definitely not going to become rich in the process. I guarantee you that.

So. What do you say? Are you ready to make massive changes in your life, right here, right now?

Ready to make 2012 the year that you break in, break through, and break away from everything that, until this moment, has been keeping you stuck, and become rich in the process? Follow the link in my About info below to get started.

One more question: What’s better than finally reaching your goals to become rich in your business, and your life? Helping someone else to do the same.

That’s why we’re committing to donating 25 percent of all sales from our Meditations for Manifesting Success audio series to Kiva, a really cool nonprofit that makes micro loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries.

Our goal? To help ONE MILLION network marketing entrepreneurs in the next 30 days enjoy massive success in 2012 and help fund the dreams of millions more entrepreneurs from all over the world.

That’s a HUGE goal. But guess what? When it comes to manifesting, it takes the same amount of effort to bring one dollar into your life as it does to bring a million dollars, or become rich at any level at all.

Which means – say it with me – that we are limited only by our beliefs.

It really is just as simple as all that.

We’ve supported Kiva in the past, and love the hand that we play in helping people we’ll never meet reach their goals.

You can help us do that in a huge way beyond what we’ve been able to do on our own.

How? Simply by helping yourself and your business to grow, thrive, and succeed.

What are you waiting for? Let’s do this.
